My research is about the environmental impact of aquaculture

Aquaculture in the Baltic Sea, where is the potential and where are the problems?

Aquaculture stands for a substantial and still growing part of the global food production and fills an important piece in how to solve the puzzle with problem of feeding the growing population.  But the aquaculture expansion leads to environmental problems. My research is about the interaction between aquaculture systems and ecosystems. How are mussel farms affected by the brackish water in the Baltic Sea? How is the Baltic Sea affected by large scale mussel farms?

I have done most my research in the tropics, e.g. South East Asia where the development of aquaculture has been going on for a longer time and larger scale, but also in Africa. The research topics have been about the fish, lobster and seaweed farming impact on overfishing, habitat destruction, eutrophication and the development of antibiotic resistant.
