If we are to exploit the Baltic Sea in a sustainable manner, we need to ensure that important habitats for animals and plants are not destroyed. I am working to identify which habitats that are important, how well we protect these today and how the habitat management can be improved. What are the largest threats to important habitats? How can we create an effective network of protected areas? How are fish and fishing affected by marine protection?
I am a marine ecologist with extensive experience on the Baltic and North Sea habitats, especially with regards to shallow vegetation habitats. My research ranges from fundamental studies of the ecological functions of underwater plants and what controls plant distribution, to methods for mapping and monitoring benthic species.
